Research

I study how people use urban space and how housing markets move, combining new streams of urban data with spatial and econometric methods.

One idea runs through my work: measuring urban life through the technologies that observe it. It began with hard sensing, using WiFi signals to trace pedestrian activity in public space, and now extends to social sensing, reading online reviews and housing listings as signals of how commercial districts and markets change. A direction I am now exploring is agent-based simulation, using large language models to study how residents and policy interact. Across these shifts, housing markets and housing policy are the applied ground for my methods, informed by my work at Korea’s Housing and Urban Guarantee Corporation (HUG).
